Vane the Marrow - The Gravebound Reliquary Bowmen

$9.99

Vane the Marrow was, in life, a deserter. He fled a soldier's debt across two regions and three winters, and when the running stopped, it stopped in the cold quiet of a Black Hollow crypt, where he asked for sanctuary and the Reliquary, after the proper consideration, granted it. The oath required of him was not the standard Watch Vault binding. It was specific. He swore he would never run again.

The Reliquary took the oath literally. The binding-rite that raised him afterward fixed the vow into the shape of his service, and Vane has held to it since with the patient, slightly stunned recognition of a man who has discovered that the bargain he made was both fairer and more thorough than he understood at the time of swearing. He sets his feet at the start of an engagement and rarely lifts them again until the engagement is finished. He has agreed not to.

In battle, Vane does not maneuver so much as endure. His arrows answer those who stray too near the will of the dead, and the Reliquary, who have learned to read the dry humor buried in Ossyne phrasing, call him their walking emplacement and let him keep the joke.
